new momentum to automakers. ford, gm and chrysler all sold more cars and trucks. chrysler had its best january in 5 years, with a 16% jump. ford's sales rose 22% from last year, its best january since '06, and gm's sales topped 16%. its estmated that total auto sales hit 15.5 million last month. foreign brands helped that number. sales at toyota jumped a whopping 27% in january. and volkswagen celebrated its best january since 1974 - a 6.7% increase. demand for the accord helped the numbers at honda. demand for the model pushed sales up 12.7% consumer reports is out with its list of best car brands. toyota, ford, honda and chevrolet rank as the top brands with best consumer perception. motorists judged the automakers based on safety, value, performance, design, technology and environmental friendliness. it was a major plus for toyota to top the list, considering its recall issues past and present. fourth-quarter earnings wrapped up with a mixed bag of results for mattel, exxon, and tyson. mattel's profits dropped 17%, hit by a litigation charge earlier in the year. sales were up i

forklift operator at the ford plant not far from home... well rounded, hard working guy. he worked. he didnt deserve it. an empty parking spot marks where willie had just pulled up in his car saturday afternoon outside his grandmothers home, his 3 year old son antwan sat in the backseat when someone opened fire. he told my mother 'ill be in there in three minutes as soon as i get through texting. he was on his phone texting. and he was going to bring the baby in, because the baby was in the backseat. antwan was shot in the leg and surived..but willie, who got shot in the neck, did not. police believe this was a case of mistaken identity related to another shooting nearby last week. willie, who surived war in afghanistan, and was engaged to be married this year... died in the place where he grew up. served his country... come home.. survived over there but come home... then... ya know its hard. police havent made any arrests... as they investigate the citys second homicide in less than a week... nearly as many as it had in all of last year. willies uncle wants the shooter found... god w

after the naacp, they say it is a ford organization, they ask that they turn their records over, the naacp refuses to turn over their memberships. that would put them in harm's way. >> carper marshall, he came out of the naacp. >> she loses her job in south carolina because she refuses to give up her membership. you cannot be a civil servant in south carolina and be a member of the naacp. she is running those workshops at highlander when rosa parks meets her, in part, because she had to give up her job because of the naacp. the other reason why they do not have parks on this case is the fear of her history with the naacp, the kind of red baiting that is going on. that case then makes its way through the federal courts up to the supreme court. it is that court case and the ruling that montgomery's buses will be desegregated. on december 20 we have those very famous pictures of all of us have seen of martin luther king in the front of the bus and that very iconic picture of rosa parks -- not my personal favorite. she is looking in profile out the window, a white man sitting behind her.

was returning to i what you florida when it came down the hill. it hit a ford pickup, then it rolled. the scene is horrible as the bus broke into pieces. >> the passenger side of the bus has windows broken out and several persons were ejected. that's where several of the fatalities were. >> reporter: you are seeing live aerials looking down on the crash site. very horrific scene. for several hours the rescue attempts continued. people trapped. a lot of people were thrown out through the windows and there are still a number of people injured in various local hospitals. gregg: we are looking at the live pictures. you can see what appear to be investigators sort of combing through the fields adjacent to the crash. is that the ntsb that's part of the investigation? >> reporter: the ntsb is part of the investigation. one of their go teams is coming out. i don't know if they are on site yet. all the different cars part of the investigation that are there to local authorities as well. we have video that just came into us. this video shows the skid marks. amazing to see the skid marks as the
